Einige Anmerkungen zu Freedom IPS von Usern:

There is a problem (or at least there used to be) with this product. There is a rather lengthy list of other software that can not even be installed on a computer running Freedom software (most notably Novell Netware).

Tried it... Wouldn't install at all on Linux (RH6.2), it crashed under Gnome evertime and left me with an incomplete installation. Installed but wouldn't set up correctly under Win2000 (something with not being able to get token). Others may have better luck.

I've been running it for a week. The only thing slow about it is the secure web browsing.

Installation went fine. Handles cookies okay, blocks ads. Stealth on shieldsup. Receives mail and new fine... BUT...I can't figure out how to get mail and news out. If I can overcome this obstacle, I will think it is pretty slick.

Freedom has just released a new version 2.0 which now includes a firewall and banner ad managent. Seems as if Leaktest didn't pass the muster. I was wondering if ZoneAlarm was integrated into this Freedom firewall as the graphic interface has a remarkable resemblence...
I've always liked freedom, but it was just for anonymity. Now they package up the whole bundle with Form Filler, Ad Management, Firewall.
I hear they have one of the best cryptographers in their lab.

Not only does it pass your test with flying colors, along with ZoneAlarm Pro (which I have also used in the past), Freedom also includes an Ad Manager (ala adFilter), a Form Filler (ala Gator) with the nice touch of an "Auto Generate" information that fills out forms with anonymous information, and a Cookie Manager (ala IE 6).
So... for $49.95, you receive a personal firewall as good as Zone Alarm Pro (with slightly less configuration in the areas of Local/Internet Zones), and three additional privacy tools, along with the benefits of sending your traffic along a fully encrypted, private network that completely anonymizes your surfing experience.
      Excellent product worth a look-see.

I have tested it using Leaktest. It fails when leaktest is renamed to the same name of a previously approved program, placed in the same directory, AND uses the previously approved port. Apparently, Freedom does not use any file checksum/hash verification.

Apparently not in the free version. I've seen some posts that gave the impression that the paid version does, but nothing very specific.

1.0 was a good product... didn't work very well with Win98 and ICS, though. v2.0 is what I "paid" for originally, and then some. Makes me wish I had not plopped down the money for ZoneAlarm Pro. Zero Knowledge added just about every feature request I sent in over the past year... I just wish they had announced their intentions a few months earlier!
BTW - as for LeakTest & Freedom... it recognizes the application no matter what... even if you rename it to an already "approved" application.
